The floodplain Lus van Linne was an extraction site until 1980s. At the beginning of the 21st century, the location was designated as a site of special interest within the National Ecological Network. In 2005, a definitive restoration plan for the area by extracting the remaining aggregates and completely remodeling the meander zone was operated. River-related habitats and flood protection are central themes with unique opportunities for biodiversity. During extraction and restoration works, developments are carefully monitored and relevant species are regularly reported. Prior to commencement of restoration works, every zone undergoes a scan by ecologists to determine the presence of protected or interesting flora and fauna.
