The extraction and restoration of Sandy Heath Quarry has been carefully designed to reinstate the heathland and acid grassland that historically used to cover extensive areas of the Greensland Ridge Nature Improvement Area. Different restoration techniques have been implemented since the restoration works started in the 1990s. This flexible approach to delivering the restoration scheme has been critical to ensuring that certain features developed through the quarrying have been retained and included into the restoration landform. The habitat created hosts an important population of birds, invertebrates and lichens.
